The service is good and quick. They had no diesel cars left, but we could choose from several gasoline cars. The only minus - too many scratches on all doors, roof ...

It was a little unclear at first after coming through passport control in the arrival hall, but found the rental place very quickly, bus service ok. Service was excellent, very friendly person, taking the time to explain the contract. I knew about the full tank of petrol, which I don't like, but have to accept. Also the insurance was explained. The car hire was very cheap so I wasn't expecting too much, the car had a few marks on it, but was in perfect working order. Tires could do with a renewal soon. The car was clean, radio working,so all in all I was happy.

Portsmouth is a city located in the English county of Hampshire. It’s the second largest city in Hampshire, behind Southampton, and is the only city in the United Kingdom that is located on an island. With a population of over 200,000 it’s situated 64 miles from London and can be accessed by travelling south on the A3 or the M27. If you would prefer to travel by train then the main stations in Portsmouth are; Portsmouth Harbour, Portsmouth and Southsea, Fratton, Hilsea and Cosham. The nearest airport is at Southampton, which is around half an hour away.

Portsmouth is noted for its naval history, which is where much of its tourist industry is gleaned from. One of the biggest attractions is its Historic Dockyard, which includes the D-Day Museum, which gives an insight into one of the most important days of the Second World War. Elsewhere in the dockyard you can see the remains of HMS Victory, which was Henry VIII’s flagship, the Mary Rose and HMS Warrior, which was Britain’s first iron steamship.

Another attraction is the city’s football team, Portsmouth F.C. Known as Pompey, the club currently play their games at Fratton Park and are in the second tier of English football. One of the most famous clubs in the country, their last major success occurred in 2008 when they won the FA Cup at Wembley.

The climate in Portsmouth is much like the rest of the United Kingdom, however on the main island of the city the temperatures are much milder than they are on the mainland. This is due to the urban heat effect and the densely populated area, which means that when sunshine is around it’s reflected and retained by all of the buildings. Due to it’s location on the South Coast of the U.K Portsmouth also receives the most sunshine, with temperatures of around 23C in the summer and 8C in the winter.
