An excellent series of highways makes Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag and Groningen a short day trip from anywhere in the Netherlands. There are no toll highways in the Netherlands and parking in cities will need a time stamped parking disc to park in blue zone areas.

The minimum age for driving in the Netherlands is 18 and as a general rule tourist and business travelers should possess a valid drivers licnece, international driving licence is required and it can be obtained from automobile associations in your home country and it is adivisable to carry your driving licence, insurance certificates, proof of ownership and registration papers along with your passport regularly while driving. Seat belts are compulsory in the Netherlands and childrens below the age of 12 years should sit in the rear seat with seat belts fastened. The blood alcohol limit in Netherland is 0.05 % and the police department are cracking down on drink and drive offenses and regularly set up roadblocks to catch druck drivers. Fines are collected on the spot depending on the offence and revocation of your driver’s licence and refusal to submit to an alcohol test is also an offence and it is treated as a high degree of intoxication.
