About Zurich

Zurich is one of the most important cities in Alpine Europe, and every year welcomes millions of people who want to spend their time either skiing in the Alps during the winter, or enjoying the opportunity to go hiking or mountain biking during the summer. The city itself is picturesque and modern in equal amounts, with great shopping areas, and numerous attractions to see during your stay.

Some of the most popular things to see in Zurich include the famous Fraumunster Church, which has been the symbol of the city for almost 700 years, and is the dominant point on the sky line. The Kunsthaus is the best known arts museum and gallery in Switzerland, and has an exceptional collection of art work from some of Europe’s best known artists alongside a comprehensive collection of work from the Dadaist movement that was based in Zurich, and which inspired a great deal of the work of Salvador Dali.

If you are visiting Zurich and want to experience the mountains, but don’t have the time to go right out to one of the nearby towns, then taking the train out of the city to Uetliberg is a great way to spend a day. You get some great views and can enjoy the exhilaration of the mountain area without needing to stray far outside Zurich.

Arranging car hire in Zurich provides you with a great deal more freedom to explore the area than the public transport ever could. There are a number of companies who offer car hire at Zurich Airport including Avis, Budget, Hertz, National, Sixt, and Europcar. By renting a car, you really open up the country so that you can go and see what is on offer. By driving south along the banks of Obersee, the lake that Zurich is on, you pass through numerous spa towns where you can enjoy the beaches during the summer, while if you head towards Rapperswill, you find yourself at the entrance to the Alps where many of the smaller towns have excellent ski runs available and present a good alternative to the more established resort towns.
