If you are visiting Zurich and want to experience the mountains, but don’t have the time to go right out to one of the nearby towns, then taking the train out of the city to Uetliberg is a great way to spend a day. You get some great views and can enjoy the exhilaration of the mountain area without needing to stray far outside Zurich.

By driving south along the banks of Obersee, the lake that Zurich is on, you pass through numerous spa towns where you can enjoy the beaches during the summer, while if you head towards Rapperswill, you find yourself at the entrance to the Alps where many of the smaller towns have excellent ski runs available and present a good alternative to the more established resort towns.
