Zaragoza

Zaragoza is one of the great monumental towns in Spain, it is the culminant point in the valley of Ebro, Spain’s most water bearing river. The capital of Aragon and has all the attractions of a modern populous city with excellent avenues such as that of La Independencia, Sagasta, Gran and squares such as that of Paraiso. It was founded some 2000 years ago and includes important buildings of Spanish baroque. Today the town is economically very active and organises several important international fairs.

The city’s appeal lies in the fact that it has been left relatively untouched by tourism. The old town is full of authentic Spanish restaurants and Aragon cooking is superb. Attractions in the city include the Aljaferia castle the greatest Moorish edifice outside Andalucia the Roman Forum and the Theatre of ancient Caesarugusta and the Basilica del Pilar one of the most famous sanctuaries of the Virgin Mary in the world. The church is one of the most visited places of pilgrimage in all Spain, it is a building of 1681 and is flanked by four towers. The gothic cathedral with lateron added parts in neoclassical baroque and plateresque styles built in 14 th century over an older Romanesque temple is worth a visit. Some of the other attractions are the La Audiencia built in 1551 served as residence to the Counts of Morata, the palace of the Counts of Sastago is famous for its beautiful renaissance courtyard, the Patio de la Infanta today a main seat of a bank has a great Renaissance courtyard and the Torreon de Zuda-the tower of Zuda is the only remaining rest of the 10 th century Moorish palace. Among the museums the most famous museums are the Provincial Museum made in 1909 for a Spanish-French exposition containing some prehistorical objects and great paintings, the Museum Camon Aznar located in a great Renaissance building and exposes a valuable private collection of paintings, sculptures and ceramics and the Museum Pablo Gargallo exhibiting the important collection of contemporary sculptury.

Nightlife is wonderful in the city of Zaragoza especially in the Central Market where lots of young people, locals and good music is found. The other place for the night are the Bolovia-La Paz, this is a place of fashionable locals and fashionable people with really nice ambience.
