Weather in Romania
Romania being situated at the southeastern zone of Europe, shows weather pattern which continuously fluctuates between continental and temperate climate type.
In the extreme southeastern zone of the country the Mediterranean climate influences a much milder and maritime climate.
The Atlantic air masses get obstructed by the Carpathian Mountains. As a result the west side and central portion of the country remain deprived of the oceanic influences. The vast plain situated to the north of Soviet Union is also prevented from the continental climate by the mountains. This blockage in the western and southern zone results in milder winter in the western part, where as the south and southeastern region face frosty winters. Moreover the western region has more rainfall than the southern region.
Rainfall is adequate in the country though the amount decreases from mountains to plains. Annual precipitation in central Transylvania averages around 635mm, Moldavia records 521 mm and 381 mm is seen near the Black Sea.
Much like North America Romania also has four seasons. During winter there are plenty of snowfalls making the land a heaven for skiers. During spring, days are warm while mornings and nights remain cooler. Autumn however is rather a dry season.
