Vigo city located by the sea and established long ago is the largest in Galicia and it is an industrial city. It was an important shipping center throughout the world in the sixteenth century. It is known more for its industrial and trading power.
The city marked life in Vigo during the War of Independence and it was during this century that the city was for a period of time the capital of the province. The city is not that of a tourist spot but some of the attractions are really beautiful. The Neoclassical collegiate church of Sant Maria and the city center which is famous for its peaceful streets and large avenues running in harmonious unity are some of the attractions in the city. The museum Quinones de Leon is also a famous place to visit exhibiting extensive collections mostly paintings.
