About Trapani Birgi Airport
Named after Sicilian wine industrialist and automobile enthusiast Incenzo Florio Airport that is also known as Trapani Birgi Airport or simply Birgi Airport in Italy is one of the five civil airports in Sicily but is also at times used for military purposes. NATO used it as one of their four forward bases. Located at 15 km or 9 miles south of Trapani it was inaugurated in 1960. However the airport remained inactive for long period and was revived in 2003 and now hosts around 1.1 million passengers annually.
