
Torremolinos
Torremolinos is one of the most visited municipalities on the Costa del Sol, originally a fishing village is now a larger resort with many high rise hotels and apartment blocks and is still growing in all directions. It is probably the most famous of the Costa del Sol resorts due to the fact that it was the first town in this area to be developed for tourism. Terremolinos has long outgrown its Monty Pyhton spam and chips image and over recent years it has evolved as an attractive and appealing resort noted for its clean sandy beaches, wide choice of hotels and restaurants and unparalled variety of entertainment activities and nightlife.
The famous places to be visited in the city are the Palacio de Congresos- the congress hall which is a post modern building with three auditoriums, 13 small conference rooms and six meeting rooms. The municipal auditorium which is one of the biggest auditoriums in Andalucia with more than 200,000 square meters of floor space holding 1790 people seated and almost 6000 standing. It has been designed for classical concerts, ballet and all types of cultural events. Lastly the sports stadium, ideal for sports lovers which has an athletics track surrounded by pine woods with natural grass in the center for a football pitch built to regulation specifications.
Most of the tourist come to the Costa del Sol to enjoy the beaches and the weather, as the beaches are clean and sandy and tend to be wider and longer than many others. The Playamer beach stretches to the east and the Carihuela beaches stretches to the west towards Benalmadena Costa and although they do tend to get busy during the peak season. There are numerous watersports activity available all along the beaches and numerous beach hut restaurants which serve some of the local specialities of sardines done on the barbeque, paella and fried fish.
Other activities which are available in the area are the pony trekking and mountain biking in the hills, a huge aquapark with water slides artificial waves and swimming pools, the sea life aquarium in Benalmadena and the near by Tivoli world amusement park. There are many golf courses around the area making this the ideal spot for a golfing and beach holiday. The town has an overbundance of concrete high rises this is offset by the recent emergence of numerous public gardens, on the outskirts of the town there are three forests with freshwater springs and barbecue facilities and highly recommended for those seeking a little reprieve from the bucket and spade secnario on the coast. Fabulous bar and restaurants are available in and around the city and number of hotels are also available for accomodation.
