Tarragona
Tarragona located on the Mediterranean coast in the northeast of Spain is one of the most southern of the Catalan Provinces. The main feature of the coastal area is its calm, blue water whereas the inland the secnery is enhanced by the intense brightness of the sunlight. This city was founded by the Pubius Cornelius Scipio during the Second Punic War and it preserves all the characteristics of a great city where the Romans kept their legions. Tarragona is an ideal place to live with all the advantages of a provincial capital yet none of the inconveniences of a heavily populated city. There still survives a very rich monumental heritage that allows to admire some remains from the Roman Empire sich as La Muralla which surrounds the old part of the city.
Tarragona has almost doubled in size during the last twenty five years. This city is famous for its natural beauty and landscapes. Some of the main attractions in the city are the Amfiteatre located by the sea outside the old Roman city, constructed in the first or the second century of the era, the La Rambla Nova in the city center is the city’s main avenue with 45 meters wide and 700 meters long and it connects the old district. To the south the Delta del Ebre natural park the second largest wetland area in the western mediterranean it is unique landscape of great natural wealth and in the 1983 it was declared a natural park.
The province is also ideal for practising any sport especially the aquatic such as sailing, windsurfing, rowing, waterskiing and diving. The two most famous tourist attraction of Aquopolis and the Aqualeon entertainment parks with something for everyone in the family to enjoy is also a place which is worth a visit. Other famous place is the town hall in the middle of the old Tarragona with many bars and restaurants for a place to eat and drink. Last but certainly not least are the La Serra Del Monstat mountains sometime known as the Mountain of peace, these are the most characteristic mountains in the province of Tarragona.
