Weather in Sweden

Despite its position on the globe, Sweden has a reasonably warmer climate than expected. This is because of the presence of the Gulf Stream . The country has a temperate climate, with temperatures varying widely between the seasons. The northern parts of Sweden are substantially colder than the southern parts, and even more so in winter.

During the summer, the temperature levels in the southern parts of Sweden are at approximately 18°C, which sinks to –2°C during the winter months. The Baltic Sea , which lies to the east coast of Sweden , freezes during winter, and as a result of this, it is quite cold there. The west coast also has a cold climate.

Given the high latitudinal position of Sweden , it comes as no surprise that the days are nearly 24 hours long in summer, as are the nights in winter. It takes a while for non-natives to get used to this.

The summer months are milder and more tolerable at the southern areas of Sweden . The variations in temperature are much more subtle at the northern parts of Sweden during July, ranging from about 15°C to 18°C.

Sweden 's mountain regions have sub-zero temperatures even during summer, which can be as low as –13.7°C.
