About Strasbourg
The capital of Alsace, France, Strasbourg is home to some of Europe's most renowned organizations. The Grande Île, a wonderful historical center, is also one of the most reputed aspects of this city. It was the first city center to be deemed a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
Strasbourg has a population of approximately 500,000, and it is one of the largest cities of France. Many of Europes most famous institutions are located here. These include the likes of the European Court of Human Rights, the Council of Europe, the Eurocrops, the European Ombudsman, the European Parliament and the European Audiovisual Laboratory.
Being very close to Germany, Strasbourg has certain things in common with German cities. However, the main language spoken by the people is still French. German-speaking tourists may be hard pressed to find people who are capable of conversing in German. Tourists who speak other languages need not fret, because most Strasbourgers can speak English quite well.
Strasbourg can be reached by car, bus, train, or plane, and is one of the most well-connected French cities.
Strasbourg is a great place to cycle or take a walk. Bicycles are locally available for rental at reasonable rates. Buses and trams are also present.
