Weather in Spain

The weather of Spain is predominantly defined by its unusual geographical positioning. There are mainly four types of weather prevailing in the land.

The northern zone of the country is mainly influenced by the Atlantic climate where the average temperature remains around 9 degrees in winter and 18 degrees in summer. Quite soothing! But due to the successive depressions in the Atlantic this place is subject to heavy rainfall and this part is however the wettest zone of the peninsula.

The lower part of the land has the Mediterranean climate where the winter remains chilly with -15 degree centigrade on an average but during summer the temperature rises up to 24 degrees.

The average sunshine hour varies in Spain at different parts of the land. It totals 1,700 on the Cantabrian coast and rises up to more than 3,000 in the South and the Canaries.

Spain is a temperate country with average temperatures sea level of between 14º-20ºC. “Continentality” and altitude however cause daily temperatures ranges of up to 30ºC in parts of the country (Belichte in Zaragoza and Ordesa in Huesca.)

In the Pyrenees, Picos de Europa, Sistema Central and Ibérico and Sierra Nevada it snows between 90 and 120 days a year.
