People in Spain
To the south-west of Europe on Iberian Peninsula, Spain is a densely populated country. The country is parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy.
People of Spain are in fact the contribution of Nordic and Mediterranean people. The population of the country is 45,116,894 (2007 est.). But population distribution is awfully uneven in the whole country. Madrid, the capital of the country, is the most crowded city in the country. Then comes Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Malaga and Bilbao.
Catholicism is the major religious conviction here. A survey carried out in October 2006 by “Spanish Centre of Sociological Investigations” demonstrates that 76% Spaniards who categorize themselves as Roman Catholics or another religious believers, 54% never or scarcely ever go to the church, 15% visit church few times a year, 10% few times a month and 19% go to church once or several times a week. Almost 22% of the whole Spanish inhabitants go to religious services no less than once for every month. Secularism is evident here and it is the third country who promotes marriage between same-sex lawfully after Belgium and Netherlands. 2.5% of total population are Muslims, 1% are Jewish.
Spanish civilization has its foundations in the Celtiberian, Iberian, Visigothic, Latin, Islamic, and Roman Catholic cultures. Spain has made a huge revolution in modern architecture. Rafael Moneo, Ricardo Bofill, Santiago Calatrava are some names which Spain can take pride in.
Famous director Luis Buñuel was the first to introduce the Spanish films to the whole world. Since then Pedro Almodóvar , Florián Rey, Segundo de Chomón, Luis García Berlanga, Julio Medem, Alejandro Amenábar and Carlos Saura came after him.
