
Getting to Sligo
Sligo can be reached by air, by rail or by road.
Aer Arann, one of the main Irish airlines, operates two 40-minute-long flights from Dublin to Sligo every day and four 80-minute-long flights every week from Manchester Airport. Sligo Airport is located in Strandhill, about eight kilometers to the west of town. A bus service operated by Bus Éireann runs about seven times a day on weekdays can be taken to or from the airport on request. This route starts across the road from the bus station. A taxi can also be taken, which can cost between €10 – €15, depending on the time of the day and number of passengers among other things.
Irish Rail (Iarnród Éireann), the office of which is in Lord Edward Street, operates five trains every day from Mondays to Saturdays, with an additional sixth train operating on Friday afternoons, and four on Sunday. They start off from Dublin’s Connolly Station. It’s a three-hour-long trip, and ticket prices for adults range from €26 – €35. Price reductions are offered for children under 12 and students with valid student IDs. Children under three years of age can travel for free. The price of a return ticket is the same as that of a one-way one. Tickets are more expensive on Fridays and Sundays.
