Sligo Disabled Visitors
The hotels and inns in the town of Sligo have modified their services in order to facilitate disabled people. The majority of the buses and trains of the city can be accessed by wheelchairs. Sligo’s notable museums, heritage spots and other places of interest are also designed so that disabled visitors can explore them in ease.
Sligo’s train stations have been equipped with portable ramps, and they even offer wheelchairs for transferring people with walking difficulties to and from the trains. The stations also utilize a PA system for making announcements so that even visually impaired people can be aware of them. A program to introduce induction loops at ticket-booking offices has also been developed to help the hearing-impaired. Tactile tiles have been used in the construction of some stations to help visually impaired people.
The trains have wide doors and large entrance areas designed to accommodate wheelchairs. The dining cars of the trains have special areas to seat the mobility-impaired. Hearing dogs and guide dogs for hearing impaired and visually impaired people are allowed in buffets and restaurants in trains, and also in buildings.
Modern elevators in most newer buildings have Braille-coded buttons, and they audibly speak the number of the floor upon arrival to assist visually impaired people.
