
About Sligo
Sligo the largest town in the northwest area, dates back to the 8 th century. The town was developed in the end of 12 th century by the Normans and built a castle to guard the crossing in 1245. Sligo Town Hall now stands on the site. Today, it is an idea place to tour with the majestic Benbulben to the north, the mystical Knocknerea to the south and the magical Lough Gill to the east.

Carrowmore Megalithic Tombs – the largest and the oldest megalithic cemetery in Ireland and also of great importance in Europe.
Hazelwood Forest Park Sculpture Trail – located at half moon bay on the north shore of Lough Gill is the Hazelwood Forest. Some unique series of outdoor sculptures are along the forest trail from Irish and International Artists.
Niland Collection – the collections are housed in a renovated model school that dates back to 1862. The model arts and Niland Gallery is one of the premier arts center in Ireland with an extensive programme of performing arts.
Sligo Abbey – Maurice Fitzgerald, the Chief Justice of Ireland, founded Dominican Friary in 1253. The Irish monastic church has the oldest decorated high alter dating back to the 15 th century and the majestically carved O’Crean tomb dating to 1506, medieval grave monument.
Wild Rose Tours – a cruise up the Garavouge River past Hazelwood and across Lough Gill to the 17 th century Parkes Castle.
Sligo Heritage & Genealogy Centre – the ancestral research center and the Roman Catholic Church, the earliest of which commenced in 1762, Church of Ireland dating from 1762, records of Presbyterian congregation started at 1840 and Methodist also started in 1840.
The Cat and The Moon –Irish jewellery design, fine arts and handcrafts jewellery collections are designed and hand made in the studio workshop.
