Sierre city is tiny Gold Rush era town located in the Canyon of the North Yuba river in the northern Sierra Nevada Mountains. The nearby lakes basin recreation area features over 45 alpine lakes located in the shadow of the Sierra buttes. The climate is gentle and the mountains protects from the bitter cold winds that sweep down from Donner Pass and insulate from the blasts of summer heat from the Sacramento valley.

Some of the cultural attractions in Sierra city- Museums- The Kentucky Mine, Stampmill and Museum are located just east of the city offering guided tours into the underground mine and also into California’s only remaining workable gold ore stamp mill; The Downieville Museum dates back to 1852 when it was built as a store by the Chinese emigrants and today it contains informtive collections that depicts life here from goldrush days to the present. Historic Sites- The Masonic Hall built in 1864 is the oldest building in town, the city also provides dramatic views of the Sierra Buttes; the good year’s Bar Schoolhouse was built in approximately 1872 and is still used as a church meeting house and community gathering place and this historic town dates back to the 1850s.
