Getting to the airport by driving is not that easy and depends on if you are coming from the north, south, east or west of Shanghai:

North

Get on Huangzain Lu Road and follow it until it turns into Zhongo Lu and then Neihuan Lu. Follow this road until it turns into Zhou Pou, then when you get here the airport is well signposted.

South

Go toward Nanpu Bridge and cross it onto Neihuan Lu road, continue along this road until it becomes Zhou Pou and take a left when you see a sign for the airport.

East

Go over Yanpu Bridge onto Neihuan Lu until it becomes Zhou Pou and follow signposts.

West

Follow signposts to Nanpu bridge and get onto Neihuan Lu road until it becomes Zhou Pou and follow signposts.
