Seychelles is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar consisting of more than 100 islands of which 83 are named and 46 are permanently uninhabited. There are magnificent palm fringed beaches, superb snorkelling and diving and plenty of forested wilderness filled with wildlife. There is no indigenous culture in the Seychelles but aspects of African origin have survived. Most Seychelles are Catholic but there is widespread belief in the supernatural and in the old magic of spirits known as gris. English and French are the official languages and both are spoken by most people.
The Seychelles is made up of three parts Mahe, Fregate and Praslin. Victoria is on the island of Mahe and is one of the smallest capital cities in the world and the only major port in the Seychelles. The Natural History Museum contains the bones of the extinct Seychelles crocodile and the history of the country’s people. The Botanical gardens are a beautiful sights. In addition to the enticing beauty there are famous beaches, warm turquoise waters and excellent opportunities for island hopping and there are a host of special attractions including the legendry Vallee de Mai, natioanl monuments, artist studios, marine parks and other natural wonders.
Some of the other attractions are the Ste Anne Marine National Park located few km off Victoria having six islands lying within the park and snorkelling is magnificent in this place. The Anse Lazio is the best beach on Praslin and one of the best in the country located on the far north of the island having sparkling white soft sand and some rounded granite boulders and some good waves. The nature reserve- Cousin Island home to several endangered species as well as being a breeding ground for seabirds and turtles. The island is also home to two very old tortoises George and Georgina who follows visitors around in the hope of having their necks stroked.
