San Sebastian is the cultural capital of the Spanish Basque Country is also called Donostia situated on the Cantabrian Coast some 20 kilometers away from the French border. It lies against the Bay of Biscay surrounded by green mountains, it is a tasteful resort without the normal holiday resort trimmings and makes an ideal base from which to explore the Basque Country. The beaches of San Sabestian, Concha which is the most famous one is fantastic for the tourist, the Ondarreta and Zurriola also called the Gros and the Concha and Ondarreta are into the bay adormed with Santa Clara Island is also a famous place to visit. The visit to the city is incomplete without a visit to the old quarter where most of the traditional local life takes place. Throughout the area there are hundreds of bars, small inns and restaurants stretching along the narrow and winding streets and by night there are the excellent restaurants including many specialising in sea foods and those with the stamina the bar scene. The city is quite small and your stay will be accessible to the city center.
