There is truly no city that can boast the same sort of history as Rome can. As the capital of an empire that stretched across most of the then known world, the city became enormously wealthy and influential, and much of this ancient wealth is still apparent in the various historic buildings and sights that remain in the city. Rome is a place where you could spend months exploring and still not manage to see everything that you want to pack into your visit due to the huge breadth of different attractions that the city possesses.

From the iconic Colosseum which was the centre of the Roman entertainment industry through to the legendary Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Vatican City, The Parthenon, the Villa Borghese, and many more, Rome has thousands of things to see, and even when you have seen most of them, you still need to pack in the chance to experience the local cuisine, which is amongst the best in the world.

Rome is the largest city in Italy, and during the summer months, it is also painfully hot, and having a car gives you the opportunity to escape from Rome itself on hot days in order to get into the cooler areas around the region. Popular day trips away from Rome include Tivoli – the resort town that has given its name to countless theme parks around the world, and Rimini, which lies on the other side of the country, but is still less than an hour from Rome at quieter times.

A popular destination for many travellers is the town of Fiumicino which is where the main airport for the city is now located. Fiumicino has a reputation for its seafood, and is a nice place to spend an evening winding down after a hot day in the city itself. Farther afield from Rome, visitors may want to explore the Campino region to the north which offers some interesting wine making, and plenty of the wineries provide tours and sampling if you book in advance.
