
Rodez
The city of Rodez is situated in the region of Midi-Pyrenees and is the capital of the department of the Aveyron between the lush Segala hills and the contrasting arid limestone plateaux of the Grand Causses with their strange rock formations.
There are many attractions in and around the city of Rodez and many interesting buildings including the 14 th century Maison de Guitard dite Tour des Anglais which belonged to rich bankers and features a large fortified tower. This little city is famous for its water sports, waterspors, potholing, paragliding,climbing, bouldering, canuoning and etc. City’s other attractions are Haras a former Carthusian monastery now given to a stud farm, the Fouilles de la Graufesenque an archaeological site that was once a Gallo Roman potter’s village and the Chapelle des Jesuites a 17 th century Baroque chapel and now an exhibition center. Among the museums the Musee Denys Puech contains works by the sculptor Denys-Puech and othe local artists, the Musee Fenaille exhibiting the oldest mansion in Rodez dedicated to the prehistory with some interesting menhir statues from the Aveyron and the Musee de Millau famous for the collection of fossils and dinosours skeletons from the Causse du Larzac.
Cafes and restaurants are available at the Espace public des Embergues an Italian style square serving fantastic food and also a lovely ambiance. This little city is quite busy in the peak season and accommodation is quite a problem during these season but you can easily have one if it booked in advane. Accommodation ranges from hostels, hotels, campsites, resorts and bed and breakfast.
