
Puerto Pollensa
Puerto Pollensa is located along the north west coast of Majorca, the municipal district and the holiday resort of Puero Pollensa lies on the north west coast of the island. Originally a fishing village Puerto Pollensa retains the time old tradition of the evening paseo or stroll. Although situated in the north west coast the weather is still warm, the islands mild temperature and the low rain rate make it a perfect beach destination. Most of the tourist developments that have gone on over the last 40 years have tended to be centered around the port area. One of the most popular ways to see the city of Puerto Pollensa is in the evening.
The tourist season in the city of Puerto Pollensa begins in the month of may and ends in the month of october. The fabulous resort in the city features the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range that surrounds and shelters the town. The bay of Pollensa is home to a multitude of luxury yachts as well as a mixture of colourful local fishing boats. There are number of small beaches in the area as well as the recently extended artificial one all offering the usual selection of facilities and water sports. The glass bottom boat trips are available from the port, there are also opportunities for hiking along walking trails in the surrounding hills and scenic mountains. Excursions to the lighthouse at Cap Formentor along a hair raising but a beautiful drive are popular in the city of Puerto Pollensa.
Pollensa old town situated in the hills towards the north east of Mallorca it is a peaceful old town that has been largely unaffected by tourism. Today the port at the old town has grown into a popular family resort. One of the famous tourist attraction is the church of Nostra Senyora dels Angles famous for the interior which is highly decorative particularly during the packed Sunday morning when it is ablaze with candles. One of the most popular cultural attractions in the northwest of the island is the cypress tree lined Calvari steps which lead up to the tiny Calvari church with its ancient wooden cross and magnificent views of looking back over the Pollensa old town. The Pollensa municipal museum opened in the year 1975 originally built between 1588 and 1616 has a large collection of paintings of the area on display along with archaeological finds a Buddhis mandala and the Atilio Boveri collection. The other famous museum is the Monograph museum of Pollensa earliler used as a hospital now has a number of displays showing life in the town during the Roman occupation of the island.
Shopping is not that famous in the city as such it is very adequately supplied with shops and botiques catering to the tourist trade. One of the liveliest and the biggest shopping takes place every Sunday in the church square in the Pollensa old town. Nightlife- the scene after the dark remains laid back and quiet. The old town and the resort experience plenty of festivals, entertainment is offered by many of the hotels honoured with parades, concerts and plenty of dancing in the streets. Accommodation is easy to come by in Puero Pollensa, there are many excellent hotels, apartments and villas to rent out with an abundant of facilities.
