Port de Pollenca
Port de Pollenca is a small town located on the island of
Mallorca, off the eastern coast of Spain in the
Mediterranean Sea. Situated on the Bay of Pollenca it has a
population of nearly 10,000. The local language is Spanish
(although Catalan is also spoken) and the currency on the
island, like the rest of Spain, is the Euro. The nearest
airport to Port de Pollenca is Palma de Mallorca Airport.
There are a number of beaches around Port de Pollenca that
should satisfy any desire for sunbathing. If this isn’t the
case and you would prefer to do other things on the island
then there’s still lots to do, especially around Port de
Pollenca. One of the possible alternatives os the weekly
market that takes place in the main town square, Placa
Miguel Capllonch. Here you can buy fresh fish and fruit,
along with clothes and souvenirs. To the west of the square
is the Church of Our Lady of Carmen, which dates back
several centuries and is a lovely building.
Another of the big attractions on the island is the local
football team, R.C.D Mallorca, who play their home games at
the Son Moix stadium. Despite the potential problems of
being on a small island such as Mallorca, the club have
prospered over the last few decades and have been playing in
the top flight of Spanish football since 1997.
The weather in Port de Pollenca is similar to the rest of
the island of Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands, with
very hot summers and wet, stormy winters. The hottest months
of the year are June, July and August, with an average
temperature of 25C and less than an inch of rain. In the
winter the average temperature dips to around 14C, with much
