In Poland there is over 124,000 mi to 199,640 km of road and these roads can take you from the cities of Warsaw and Gdansk to remote villages with castles and old world culture. Don’t be surprised to find horse drawn wagons on the road in many rural areas of Poland and be sure to give them the right of way. The minimum age for driving in Poland is 18 years, a valid driving licence is required, a home country licence is recognised in this part of the country. Make sure to carry your driving licence, insurance certificats, proof of ownership and registration papers along with your passport while driving and you need to present them at the Polish border crossing. Fuel stations are located roughly every 22 mi to 35 km and are opened from 6 am to 10 pm on the highways. There are no toll highways in Poland and parking is small car parks half on and half off the sidewalk, parking is illegal within 5.5 yards of a cross walk.

The speed limit in Poland in the city is 37 mph to 59 kph, on open roads it is 56 mph to 90 kph and on the highways its 68 mph to 109 kph and do check your speed as the policemen uses radar to check speed and if you are found speeding you will be fined on th spot. Seat belts are compulsory both in the front and the rear and childrens below the age of 12 are supposed to sit in the rear seat with seat belt fastened or on the child seat provided in the front. Make sure that your vehicle is fully serviced and ensure that everything is working properly especially headlights, brakes and signals. Headlights are to be used half and hour before sunset. Avoid driving in the night as it is very dangerous especially in the rural areas. Drink and drive is a serious crime and if found it will result in severe criminal penalities so it is advisable not to drink and drive.
