Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca is a town on the Spanish island of Lanzarote, which is the easternmost of the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa. In the municipality of Yaiza, Playa Blanca is a short drive away from the main airport on the island, Arrecife Airport. The name of the town means ‘White Beach’ and it’s the newest resort town on the island. On Lanzarote the currency is the Euro and the official language of the island is Spanish, however, with there being many holidaymakers based on the island, English and German is also well spoken.Most of the appeal of Playa Blanca and the rest of Lanzarote is the sunshine and relaxation opportunities, however if this is not for you then there are still plenty of things to do in the town. One of the biggest attractions on the island is the mountain range of Famara, on the north of the island. Its peak is Penas del Chache, which rises to 670 metres above sea level and is a wonderful sight.
You can also see Marina Rubicon, which is a short drive away from the town itself. Here you will find the Castillo de las Coloradas, which is a watchtower that was built in the mid-18th century to warn that pirates were attempting to land on the island. If that doesn’t take your fancy then you can take a ferry to another nearby Canary Island, Fuerteventura. There are two ferry lines to choose from and the journey only takes 20 minutes.
The weather on all of the Canary Islands is hot throughout the year, due to being relatively close to the Equator. There is very little rain throughout the year and sunshine is plentiful even in January and February. The average temperature in the hottest months, July and August, is 24C so it’s advisable that you wear sunscreen.
