Philippines, located in Southeastern Asia, archipelago between the Philippines Sea and the South China Sea, east of Vietnam. The Philippines archipelago is made up of 7,107 islands, which are favorably located in relation to many of Southeast Asia’s main water bodies. Manila is the capital city of Philippines.

Philippines Attractions

The Chocolate Hills – the hills are a mystery and legend say that they were made by two giants when they threw stones and sand at each other in a fight. But others believe that the hills are exposed coral formations weathered from thousands of years. The 1,200 hills in Bohol are magnificent to see, which are completely uniform in size and shape and covered in grass.

Coconut Palace – the former lady Imlda Marcos though up to built the palace for Pope John Paul’s visit in 1981 for $10 million dollars. The palace 70% is constructed from parts of the coconut tree and the structure is a phenomenon and unbelievable in size. Located in the Cultural Center and faces the beautiful Manila Bay, it also contains 7 suites named after the country’s seven regions.

Paco Park – a circular park covered in moss and stone with a beautiful small chapel right in the middle. The site was originally a cemetery for the Spanish aristocrats and converted to a park in 1966 when no one was buried here since 1912.

Intramuros – a European style medieval fortified city that functioned as the seat of the government from 1571 to 1898. The massive walls stretch 4.5 kms enclosing the area that once occupied by palaces, churches, monasteries, schools and wealthy residences. The whole city was razed to the ground by bombing conducted by American forces to capture Manila from the Japanese in 1945.

San Agustin Church – the second oldest church in the country has 14 side chapels and a trompe-l’oeil ceiling. In the choir loft the hand craved 17 th century seats of molave, a beautiful tropical hardwood. Adjacent to the church is a small museum run by the Augustinian order, featuring antique vestments, colonial furniture, religious paintings and icons.

Rice Terraces of the Philippines Cordilleras – the high rice fields of the Ifugao have followed the contours of the mountains for 2,000 years. The knowledge of cultivation was handed down from one generation to the next and the expression of sacred traditions and a delicate social balance.

San Agustin Church – was constructed in 1587-1604 is the oldest surviving church in the Philippines. It was the only building left intact when intramuros was reduced to rubble during the Liberation of Manila in 1945. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site is a mandatory destination for any Manila visitor.
