Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
Charles de Gaulle Airport Location
Charles de Gaulle Airport is around 16 miles north east of Paris in the village of Roissy-en-France. For this reason, the airport is often locally referred to as Roissy Airport. Charles de Gaulle Airport (or CDG) is Paris's main airport and France's largest. It sees in excess of 50 million passengers each year from all over the world and covers an area of around 12.5sqm. Compare that to Heathrow which covers just 4.7sqm and you can begin to understand the scale of it. It has a reputation for being a little confusing as although it officially only has three terminals, Terminal Two has been extended to incorporate seven smaller terminals known as 2A – 2G. Once you know this, everything becomes clear.
Also serving Paris are Paris Orly Airport and Le Bourget Airport. Paris Orly lies around 8 miles to the south of Paris and is around 25 miles from CDG. It is France's second largest airport and has two terminals which see in excess of 20 million passengers each year. Le Bourget is 7 miles north northeast of the French capital and around 4 miles from CDG. Le Bourget is mainly used for business jets as well as the occasional Airshow.
Charles de Gaulle Airport Car Hire Companies
You will find all the major car hire companies represented at CDG, including Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and National. Most of them have more than one office or contact point throughout the terminals and most are open from first flight to last flight 7 days per week.
The drop off car parks are located close to both the arrivals and departures areas in terminals 1, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2G and 3. It is worth bearing in mind that parking is not permitted outside of the terminals.
Directions to Charles de Gaulle Airport
As long as you remember to drive on the right driving to CDG is a breeze. From Paris, take the A1 via Porte de la Chapelle, the airport is well signed. Alternatively, you can take the A3 via Porte de Bagnolet which then joins the A1. From CDG to Paris is even easier, just follow the A1 signposted to Paris.
