Getting to Palma
Since Palma and Mallorca in general are such popular tourist areas, there are plenty of low-cost airline carriers flying to the main airport of Palma de Mallorca. Palma airport (PMI) is the only major airport on the island, but at just nine kilometres from the centre of the city it is in an ideal location.
As Palma is surrounded by water, the only other way you can get there (apart from flying) is from a ‘cruise ship’ from Mainland Spain or Ibiza. There are four separate ferry companies operating at any one time, which means you should be able to find something quick and generally inexpensive.
If you do decide to go to Palma, then you do not need to worry about local public transport, which is simply amazing. The city even has busses which run all day and night (to clamp down on drink driving.) The Paseo Maritimo (Palma’s version of the strip) accommodates these busses every 20-30 minutes, and there is a flat fare of just 2 Euros to access wherever you want on the line.
Of course, once you are in the country you can also hire a car. The benefits of hiring a car in a small country speak for themselves. However, the main one is that you can get from one side of the country to another in a few hours.
