
About Palma
The city of Palma is the commercial and cultural center of Majorca, the city was first incorporated as Dairyland and remained so until the dairies relocated. The name was changed in later years to La Palma in reflection of Orange County’s Spanish heritage. Today La Palma is a well established and balanced city which provides itself on a responsive muncipal government and a strong sense of community. The origins of the city can be traced back to before Roman times, and in even today inhabitants of homes in the old quarter are often still discovering Roman remains less than a meter beneath the ground.
Unlike many of the popular coastal resorts around the island the city does not have its own beach, but the city of Palma does have a suprisingly efficient public transport operated by the Empresa Municipal de Transports Urbams de Palme de Mallorca which is often seen abbreviated as the EMT which would be very helpful for the tourist to go around the city and beyond for excursions.
Nightlife here is often described as being vibrant with full of night karaoke bars and foam parties, there is however a good selection of clubs, restaurants, and lively bars in the EI Terreno district of the city which is in the center of the islands gay and lesbian community. There is full of concerts, exhibitions, festivals, ballet and theatre productions all throughout the year appealing to most tastes. Hotels throughout the city is of good standards and the best of the hotels are to be concentrated on the Paseo Maritimo to the west of the center.
