Previously known as the Son Sant Joan Airport, the Palma de Mallorca Airport is located about eight kilometers to the east of Palma de allorca. It serves as a major hub of operations for Air Berlin, Europe's fourth largest carrier service. It is the third largest airport of Spain. Travel activity greatly increases in this Europe during the summer.

The airport is situated on a sprawling 6.3 square kilometers of land. It has four gate areas, three of which are used for handling international traffic. Twenty-five million passengers can be handled annually by the airport, and there are plans to boost its passenger-handling capacity to thirty-two million passengers by the year 2010. Terminal A of the airport mostly handles flights to the United Kingdom, and Terminal B handles domestic inter-island flights. The Terminal A area has recently been renovated to create two levels of gates.

A very large number of airports operate from the Palma de Mallarco Airport, including the likes of Aer Lingus, Air Europa, British Airways, Centralwings, Iberia, Ryanair and XL Airways to name a few. A number of charter flights also operate from this airport. Being capable of handling both domestic and international flights, this is one of the most well-equipped airports of Spain.
