One of the major problems with getting to Nicosia is absence of direct aerial route. Despite being the largest city and capital of Cyprus there is no airport in Nicosia. Nicosia International Airport stopped its activities on 1974 due to damage from civil war and some other issues later on.
However, air is not totally out of limit. Larnaca Airport and Paphos Airport is near Nicosia. Larnaca is 40 kilo meters away from the capital and link it with all main European cities through scheduled flights. Paphos is situated 140 kilo meters away from Nicosia.
As Cyprus is an island, there are ferryboats and ships to link with other country. Larnaca and Limassol ports are close to Nicosia. Timetables of regular services change with seasons.
Intercity bus and taxi services link Nicosia with other regions of the country. Nicosia was one of the prime stations of Cyprus before. But right now, no train service is available in the city. So, sometimes it can be troubling for visitors.
But overall transportation to Nicosia is not too bad. Land, water and air – all the options are available. Recently, plans are taken to develop transportation in Nicosia. So, visiting to Nicosia should be fun time for tourists.
