Netherlands enjoys a temperate climate. Southerly and westerly winds predominate, and the sea moderates the climate through onshore winds and the effect of the Gulf Stream. The main features of the weather of Netherlands are:
Though Netherlands show maritime weather but due to its position in between the area of high-pressure air masses centered on the Azores and the low-pressure region centered on Iceland has resulted in an unsettled nature of weather. Wind remains quite strong in the flat coastal area. It has an average speed 13km/hour. But in the southern hilly parts the wind gets obstructed, as a result the speed is reduced to as much as the half of the coastal area.
May- September is the summer time. The warmest month is the July with 63°F of average temperature. January is the coolest month with 35°F of average temperature. On average, frost occurs 60 days per year.
Clouds appear almost every day, and in the winter fog is a very common thing, while rainfall occurs frequently. The rainfall in Netherlands averages around 31 inches per year and the rainfall is highest in August and lowest in winter. The country has only 25 clear days per year. Such damp and wet weather makes the land suitable for dairying and livestock-raising. But it is not an ideal place for cultivation as it lacks adequate sunshine.
