Nerja is a town on the Costa del Sol, located in the province of Malaga, Andalusia, in the south of Spain. The town is located to the east of the city of Malaga and is on the Mediterranean coast. The local language spoken is Spanish and the local currency is the Euro. The nearest airport is Malaga Airport, which is located around 50 kilometres to the east of Nerja.

The town was founded several centuries ago, something that has been proved by the primitive paintings found in the famous Nerja caves, which can be visited and are a popular tourist attraction. The Romans built three settlements in and around Nerja and their remains can still be seen.

Another of the most popular tourist attractions in Nerja is the Balcon de Europa, which is a viewpoint that gives a clear view across the Mediterranean Sea. This was made popular in the 19th century by King Alfonso XII, who visited the area after a natural disaster and loved it, calling it “The Balcony of Europe”.

The weather in Nerja is as you would expect for a town on the Mediterranean coast - hot. There is sunshine to be enjoyed throughout the year, with very little cold weather and rain. In the summer the average temperature is around 25C, with the record high being 31C. The winters are always mild, with the temperature rarely dropping below 7C, making it a comfortable area to visit during December and January.
