Nerja is the Costa del Sol’s most easterly resort, it is now a thriving resort but has managed to retain much of its original character and charm. Built on the site of a 9 th century Moorish fortress th Balcon de Europa in the heart of the city is a beautiful viewing point overlooking the sea with spectacular views of cliffs all along the coastline and of the pretty coves and small beaches.

Nerja is famous for its sandy beaches which is the best of its kind in the city. The Burrianna beach at the far east of the town has been awarded the blue flaf of the European Union and still there are many small beaches for the tourist who would like to do something more quaint. In most of the resort on the Costa del Sol there is a full range of water sports available in Nerja including water skiing, scuba diving and canoeing. Some of the other famous places to see is the specatacular mountains of the Sierra de Almijara, the 17 th century El Salvador Church, the gardens of Capistrano Playa and the 16 th century Nuestra Senora de las Angustias Hermitage. The Caves of Nerja is also one of the important tourist place which is worth visiting.

Nightllife in the city of Nerja is fabulous, the Tuti Fruti square where the disco pubs are located of which many are run by the English speaking people which would not be a problem for the tourist. Food lovers can enjoy a wide range of fish restaurants all the way along Burriana beach where sample local specialities such as pescaito frito and paella and many traditional tapas bars are available in the old part of the town giving a free tapa with every drink and a large number of international restaurants.
