In order to reach Murcia, a flight must be taken to the United Kingdom first. Flights to Murcia are usually readily available from nine UK airports and through six more UK-based airlines offering services at low costs. It takes approximately 2½ hours to reach Murcia Airport from the UK using any airline. With the advent of the lower-cost airlines, e.g. Flybe, Jet2, Mytravellite and Bmi baby, the Murcia Airport is becoming a busier place every day. A much larger selection of flights and travel-related services can be found at Alicante Airport, 85 kilometers away.
Cars are ideal means of transportation for travelling in Murcia if you are a tourist. Renting a car immediately at the airport upon arrival is a good idea. Offices of numerous different car rental companies can be found inside the airport after completing the luggage pickups, right before leaving the arrival lounge. It is an even better idea to make reservations before setting out for Murcia, so that a rented car is ready and available upon arrival. Companies such as www.avis.com and www.europcar.com offer such services.
Arranged transportation from the Airport of San Javier or Alicante are also available. It costs €35 per person with a minimum general fee of €65 for a one-way trip made from the Alicante airport. Transportation arrangements from the San Javier Airport are similarly priced.
