Best of Murcia
There are a lot of great places to visit in Murcia. These include the cathedral (mostly consisting of baroque), the Salzillo Museum (home to many beautiful sculptures), the Palacio del Almudi, and the Iglesia de San Esteban.
El Valle and the La Fuensanta Sanctuary are the best places from where a wonderful view of Murcia and the valley surrounding it can be obtained. Both the sites are located amidst the mountains behind the city. Upon going toward Cartagena and heading toward La Alberca before the mountains (5 – 10 km away from Murcia) and passing straight by, you will see signs indicating the position of Santuario de la Fuensanta. It offers a magnificent view of the sunset.
The Moorish castle atop the Monteagudo mountain (a landmark visible from almost anywhere in Murcia) is a must see. It was converted to Christianity by placing an "open arms" image of Jesus Christ in front of it. It can be reached in a mere five minutes after leaving Murcia via the old Alicante road, or by taking the motorway to Alicante. The car has to be parked at the foot of the mountain, though.
Murcia features a lot of beautiful beaches. The beaches between between Mazarron and Aguilas are still virgin territory, while the others, such as La Manga, are very busy and crowded during summer.
We hope you will enjoy your visit to Murcia immensely.
