Murcia Airport Location
Murcia Airport (also known as Murcia: San Javier Airport) is situated about 28 miles from the city of Murcia and is close to the small town of San Javier. It is well located if you are travelling to the Costa Calida or southern Costa Blanca areas of Spain. It is situated between three main cities – Cartegena, Torrevieja and Murcia and is about 18 miles from the La Manga area, so sees thousands of tourists and residents go through its doors every year.
While Murcia Airport is small in comparison to the likes of Alicante Airport, there has been a growing interest in the area in recent years, especially in the La Manga area and the airport has become more popular with a growing number of low-cost charter airlines.
Murcia Airport Car Hire Companies
You will find a number of car hire company counters at the airport and they are simple to find as it is such a small airport. Some small rental companies have their office in the airport's parking lot in minivans. It may seem a little odd but this is where you will pick up and drop off your hire car keys. Companies with offices at the airport include AurigaCrown, which you will find in the Arrivals Hall; Centauro; Goldcar Murcia and international companies such as Europcar and Avis. The car hire rental car parks are located in the airport compound, on the left before the taxi area.
Directions to Murcia Airport
Public transport to and from the airport is not that regular – there are about three direct buses a day that head into downtown Murcia City and no direct train connections. If you are going into Murcia city, you may be lucky to arrive when one of the three buses is scheduled, otherwise you will need to take a taxi or hire a car. It will take about 40 minutes to drive from the airport into Murcia city. You will need to take the AP-7 towards San Pedro and Mercia, before taking exit 782 to merge onto Autovía C-3319/C-3319 toward Balsicas/Murcia. Take the ramp to the A-30 and take exit 142 to Murcia. When returning your hire car at the end of your vacation, you'll find the car hire car parks on the left when you enter the airport area.
