Morocco History
The history of modern Morocco dates back a long time- almost to 4000BC. The area has been inhabited since then.
Around the seventh century the Arabs conquered the land. Prior to the conquest the Moroccans were called the Berbers. It is said that the Arabs brought in their civilization as well as their religion in Morocco which started fading the Berber era, when numbers of their people were converted. It is said that the Arabs degraded the Berbers as Barbarians and the Berbers also detested the Arabs. They found the arabs being arrogant and too brutal when it came to tax collection. But when the Berbers became Muslims they reformed the original religion in which they could preserve their own folk religion. This measure was adopted to pave the way of getting rid from the Arabs.
There were some Portuguese intrusion during the 15 th century, yet the land didn't go under European govern. After Napoleonic wars, the land became hard to rule all the way from Istanbul . By the signature of Treaty of Fez on 1912, Morocco became a protectorate of France . Morocco earned its independence in 1956. Mohammed the Fifth constructed the foundation of the modern government structure which was principally sited under the sultans having an active political position.
