Monaco offers motorist some of th most unique and beautiful scenery in Europe, the highway system is excellent but the routes are indirect due to many lakes in southern Monaco. The Finnish drive on the right hand side and overtake on the left and you may pass on the right on multilane roadways, driving in winter months can be dangerous. All motor vehicles must use headlights at dusk or in the fog or rain and it should be used at all times outside built up areas. Fuel stations in the city are opened from 7 am to 9 pm with some stations in major cities opened 24 hours. There are no toll highways in Monaco and parking is metered parking, where there are no meter parking pay and display parking vouchers which can be obtained at gas stations.
The minimum age for driving is in Monaco is 18 and licence of EU or EEC model or member countries of 1949 and 1968 conventions or national licences accompanied by an official translation into Finnish or Swedish are recognised in the country. The speed limit in the city of Monaco is 31 mph to 50 kph, on major roads it is 62 mph to 100 kph and on motorways it is 74 mph to 120 kph. Seat belts are compulsory and childrens below the age of 12 must sit in the rear seat. It is advisable to carry your driving licence, insurance certificate and vehicle registration with proof of ownership along with your passport whenever you are driving.
The blood alcohol limit in Monaco is 0.05, drink driving laws are strict and police strictly enforce all traffic laws and institue random roadside breathalyser test. If a driver found with blood alcohol more than 0.05 are subject to immediate arrest and driving licence barred.
