Mexico Weather Guide

Mexico is a vast country that enjoys a number of different climates. Opposed to popular perception, Mexico is not hot during most of the year. But, yes, it is not a cold country for sure. Broadly speaking, Mexico’s seasons can be divided into two: dry and rainy.

The Dry Season

Mexico remains largely rain-less during its dry season that spans from about November to April. If you do not enjoy rains, then this is the season for you to visit the country. However, this is not exactly the ideal season because the landscape gets all dried and arid and the weather can be sometimes unbearable.

The Rainy Season

During the rainy season, (May to October) Mexico enjoys moderate rains almost on a daily basis. However, this should not discourage you from visiting the country during the season. This is because Mexico’s natural beauty blossoms beautifully when rains lash it. There is rich verdure to enjoy and calm evenings that rejuvenate. In fact, the peak holiday season of Mexico (July-August) falls during the rainy season itself.

The Hurricane Season

Sometimes the rains are accompanied by hurricanes. These can spoil your holiday by hindering your outing plans. Therefore, it is important that you research about the climatic conditions and future weather projections of the places that you plan to visit in the country. The hurricane season is between the months of June and November.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Mexico would depend on the places that you plan to visit. If you are visiting the capital, Mexico City, then almost the whole of the year is safe enough. The city and, in general, the central plateau of the country are a little cold from December to March however. The deserts of northern Mexico are hot in the day and cold during the night. So, you would need both woolens and light summer clothes here. Southern Mexico, in contrast, is largely pleasant at lower altitudes. If it is Baja California that you are visiting, then try to make it during the winters as summers can be slightly unpleasant here.
