Madeira
Madeira, the paradise island is quite a floating garden with volcanic ashes and demolished lava giving the island a rich soil and the nature is simply luxurious. It is the oldest tourist destination in Europe. The British tourist stayed long before the charter age and left a certain dignified mark on the islands tourism. It is a very dramatic island and exotic green with a light that gives the landscape a special shimmer.
Though there is no much tourist attraction in this city but many towns and villages are really nice to explore. There are more interesting places to visit in the northern and northwestern parts of island filled with culture and traditional way of Madeiran life. For the nature lover there is plenty to explore especially the beautiful protected parks up in the mountains in the heartland of the island and walking along the many levadas or tracks will lead to the green forests of Madeira. Madeira does not have many sandy beaches but lots of terrific pools built in the cliffs with steps down to the ocean and the pools are filled with sea water.
For food Madeira is paradise, regional dishes include espada, bife de atum e milho frito-tunk steak and fried maize, lulas, caldeirads-fish foup and more than 300 varieties of bacalhau. Fresh sea food and fish is also available.
