Las Artes the city of Art and Science and undoubtedly the number one attraction these days attracting over 4 million annual visitors. The city consolidates a number of visual and performing arts colleges into one complex on a single site where several striking unusual buildings present a dramatic and colorful architectural collge.
Attractions in the city is in plenty and the main attraction is the Hemisferic which is a planetarium and a huge IMAX cinema showing science and geography related documents. This was completed in the year 1998 resembling a huge eye ball floating above a pool of water, the eye blinks with the aid of a steel and glass shutte operated by hydraulic lifts. The Oceanografic, Europe’s biggest marine park which is home to 500 species of fish and other sea creatures from every ocean of the world. Along side the Hemesferic si th science museum which is famous in its looks, like a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton from the outside whist others see it as the spine of some huge prehistoric fish. Some of the other attractions- the Cathedral which has reputedly been the home of the mythical Holy Grail, and the art galleries and museum containing an impressive collection of Spanish modern art lies near the Torres de Quart and the Museu San Pio exhibiting fine collection of with a particularly Flemish and native Valencian flavour.
Shopping is simply amazing in the city with fewer souvenir shops and tourist facilities. The best shopping streets include the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Calle Don Juan de Austria, Calle Colon and the various other shopping which would make you feel the real holiday shopping in the city. Nightlife is awesome in the city, the best area in the cooler months is in the center in the historic Barrio Carmen which is famous for nightlife and for its bohemian bars. Restaurants are in plenty in and around the city serving some really delicious foods and stuffs.
