Larnaca International Airport (LCA)is the main Gateway to Larnaca and Cyprus and also an international hub between Europe and the Middle East. Cyprus Airways is the official airline of the Republic of Cyprus but you can see names of Airlines from all three surrounding continents such as Egypt Air, Gulf Air, Aeroflot, Swissair, British Airways, SAS, and so on. There are of course direct connections to many destinations in the three continents, Israel, Greece and the UK being the most popular. The airport services over five million passengers a year just for Cyprus while the number of stopover passengers is much higher. These numbers by far exceed the capacity the airport was originally designed for by its French architects and there are constant extensions and arrangements so that it remains efficient. It also looks very well decorated and copies of ancient Cypriot works of art give it a very fresh ambiance.
Except for the excellent service in the Arrivals section, the shopping area isquite extensive (over 6,000 square meters) with a lot of duty free shops and other vendors that will supply you with anything from sporting goods to toys and from newspapers and magazines to leather wear. There are over 20 places to eat and drink and should you be visiting Cyprus on business, there is a separate business lounge. Larnaca Airport is very close to the city and there are coaches and taxis to take you everywhere on the island you need to go. Visitors from the UK will feel just like home driving a hired car in Cyprus.
