A Spanish Island, Lanzarote is situated in the easternmost part of Canary Islands. It is the 4th biggest among all the islands.The very first name of this island was "Insula de Lanzarotus Marocelus" which was given by a man named Angelino Dulcert, naming it after a famous Genoese navigator called Lancelotto Malocello. This is the name from which the new name has been derived. This name means "the red mountains".
It is basically a volcanic origined place. "Tunnel of Atlantis" the worlds biggest volcanic tunnel that has submerged. This island is very much under protection by Unesco as one Biosphere Reserve.
Lanzarote's mountains comprise of the Montañas del Fuego situated in the national park of Timanfaya. “Peñas del Chache” is there tallest mountain elevating 670 m from sea level.
It is a diverse island that has the biggest ethnic group even after being Spanish; plus there also are a large amount of African, South Asian, chinese as well as European populations.
Lanzarote has its an international airport named Arrecife Airport, and through this around 5.5 million visitors travel each year. Tourism is the islands economy’s mainstay for over forty years now. The other only significant industry is there agriculture.
