The city has connected through flights, trains and by the buses and cars to the rest of the Portugal cities, direct flights go into the Algarve through Faro airport. The shuttle buses runs from here to the train and bus stations in faro. The Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses (Portuguese Railway) offers a choice of a slow train or a slightly faster one, with fewer stops. The slow train is the most frequent. Choices for the most direct buses are Expresso having the slowest stops at many villages on the way. For the local transport in the city, car hire are openly exposed at the west coast of the city. There are town buses which run a circular route within the town boundaries, and the country buses that go out west to Praia da Luz, Burgau, Vila do Bispo and Sagres; east to Odeáxere, Portimão, Praia da Rocha, Lagoa, Silves and Monchique and north to Barão de São João, Bensafrim and Aljezur. Tourist can find the taxis available at the centre of the town and also at the larger villages.
You can also hire a car in Portugal and travel to your desired destination. The roads that connect the different areas in Lagos together vary much from location to location, quality wise. Some are very smooth and in very good shape where you can easily travel in a car from a car rental in Lagos whereas others are bumpy and not maintained. As for the freeways, well they are properly maintained. There are two major expressways in Lagos, that are the Ibadan expressway and the Abeokuta expressway. These expressways are used as the highways within the city and used by the Portugal car rental cars.
