La Manga
La Manga is a resort located in the city of Murcia, on the
south-eastern coast of Spain. It’s a strip of land 22
kilometres long and is well known throughout Europe for its
nightlife and hotels. In particular the Zoco area of the
town is where the main tourist attractions can be found. The
local language spoken is Spanish and the currency is the
Euro.
The actual land was mostly untouched until the middle of the
20th century when La Manga started to be seen as a possible
tourist resort on the Mediterranean. It was at this point
that the land spit was transformed into the urbanised place
it is now.
Due to the resort being located on the strip of land between
two seas it’s very popular with water sports enthusiasts.
You will be able to sign up to sailing and water skiing
schools throughout the year, or just rent out water skis and
sailing boats yourself, if you’ve got experience. The resort
also has a number of nearby golf courses, such as the La
Manga Golf Club, which is an 18-hole championship standard
course, and the La Manga Stadium, which hosts pre-season
friendlies of many British football clubs in the summer.
Due to being in the Mediterranean Sea the weather in La
Manga is hot all year round, with temperatures rarely
dipping below 10C. Due to the winds blowing off the
Mediterranean Sea it’s often very humid in the summer so
it’s advisable to wear sun cream at all times if you intend
on travelling to La Manga in the summer.
