Exploring Kos

The island of Kos is ideal for exploration.

The roads of Kos are quite well-maintained, and the main road from Kos Town to the airport and Kefalos is the only one which can be called reasonably busy. Taxis are abundant, and they can be found mostly around the harbour area across the castle or under the minaret. Most Kos drivers speak English. Taxi fares are fixed, but is often advisable to negotiate a price before getting in.

A couple of tourist trains operated by KTEL also run in Kos. The green train takes tourists on a round trip of Kos Town, and the blue train takes people to the Asklepieion. The trains are slow and relatively more expensive, but they are the only forms of public transport to the Asklepieion from Kos Town.

The Kos Town buses (DEAS) run on a number of routes around town while the KTEL buses take you everywhere else. The majority of DEAS town buses operate from the bus stop located on the south side of the harbour. The main bus station is on Kleopatras Street in Kos Town. Discounts of up to 30% are offered at the bus station. The latest schedules are regularly posted at Kos Harbour and the bus station. Timetables are available free of cost, both in English and in Greek. However, the buses can get very overcrowded during the peak hours.

Boat trips are also offered at Kos Harbour by various rental services and travel agencies.
