Jersey Guide
Jersey is an island off the coast of
Normandy, France. It’s a British Crown Dependancy and is
officially called the Balliwick of Jersey, which also
encompasses two groups of small islands that aren’t
inhabited. Alsong with the Balliwick of Guernsey they make
up the Channel Islands. Jersey isn’t part of the United
Kingdom and is separate, having its own international
identity and political system. As well as these Jersey has

Jersey has been inhabited since the Bronze and Iron Ages,
with evidence of Viking settlements being found. Jersey was
invaded by the Vikings in the 9th century and was eventually
given to the Normans, once William the Conquerer conquered
England in 1066. King John lost all territory in Normandy in
1204 to King Philip II Augustus and ever since then the
Channel Islands have been internally self-governed.
Jersey has an incredibly high economic output per capita,
one that’s only surpassed by two other small countries,
Bermuda and Luxembourg. The GDP per capita estimate stands
at $57,000. However, this is because Jersey’s economy is
based on financial services, tourism and electronic
commerce, in reality the standard of living in Jersey is
comparable to the rest of the United Kingdom.
Another large part of the economy is agriculture and one of
the main aspects of this sector is the Jersey cow, which is
a small breed of cow that’s well known for its quality meat,
along with its rich milk and cream. In fact the “Jersey Cow”
is a well distributed brand of milk, cream and fudge

is a local variety of new potato that is famous throughout
France and the UK.
