About Jerez
Jerez is one of the most important towns in the Andalucía region of Spain. It has been known around the world for many years thanks to its reputation for being at the heart of the Sherry industry, although in recent times, Jerez has become increasingly popular with holiday makers wanting to see a little bit more of Spain than just the beach front and the water parks.
Jerez lies in the centre of one of the main horse breeding regions of Spain, and thanks to the nearby landscapes of the Sierra Nevada, it has become one of the best horse trekking areas in Europe., and one of the most popular activities among holiday makers in the region is to go to one of the horse ranches to the north of Jerez itself and take a horse out onto the mountain trails in order to see an entirely new perspective on the mountains.
Jerez is a fascinating place to spend a few days, with many things to see and do in the city centre. The Alcazar, an 11th century Muslim fortress dominates the city, and is open to the public throughout the year. Nearby, Jerez Cathedral shows an entirely different set of architectural influences with a mixture of classical and gothic styles being used to create a unique and beautiful building.
Jerez’ location in Andalucía means that it is the ideal place from which to enjoy a holiday exploring the Spanish Costa Del Sol. Less than half an hour south of Jerez you can visit the harbour Town of Cadiz, while a little further away to the south east of the city you can visit the British outpost Gibraltar, which is known for its tax free shopping.
If you have booked car hire in Jerez before travelling to the region, then you have the opportunity to travel much further around the city without having the expense of using organised transport. Faro and the Algarve are a couple of hours drive to the west along the southern coast, while if you head east you can explore the famous Costa del Sol resorts of Marbella, Malaga, and Torremolinos with their well developed tourist facilities and water parks.
