Israel Travel Guide

Israel is located in Middle East, bordering the Mediterranean Sea between Egypt and Lebanon and Tel Aviv is the capital city. Israel was born after UN partitioned Palestine into Arab and Jewish state when the British withdrew from their mandate of Palestine.

Since 1517 to 1917 Turkey’s Ottoman Empire controlled a majority of land now in Lebanon, Syria and Palestine but during the First World War Turkey supported Germany in 1914 to 1918. When the Germans were defeated so were the Turks and the control of the southern part of their Ottoman Empire was mandated to France and Britain in 1916. Under the Sykes-Picot Agreement the Arab regions were divided into zones of influence like Lebanon and Syria were assigned to France and Palestine (present Jordan, Israel and West Bank) was assigned or mandated to Great Britain.

Because no other people had established a national homeland in Palestine and the Jews had done it 2000 years before, so Britain looked favorably upon the creation of a Jewish National Homeland throughout all of Palestine.
