Ireland has an extensive road system due to the large rural population surrounded by breathtaking scenery, peaceful countryside and many destinations to explore. Nothern Ireland is a country just 85 miles long and 70 miles wide which makes it possible to see much of the area in a few hours.
The minimum age for driving is 18 years and a valid international licence is required. Speed limits in the city is 30 mph to 45 kph and on open roads it is 60mph to 95 kph and over speeding is penalised as there are hidden cameras to check your speed. Traffic travels on the left hand side and most of the car has right hand drive and overtaking is on the right hand side. Most of the fuel station is opened from 7am to 7pm and there are some fuel stations that are opened 24 hous in some of the major cities.
Make sure that all the mandatory equipmets are available in your car and these include the first aid kit, spare fuses, fire extinguisher and light bulbs. It is a rule of the city that the headlights must be used half and hour before sunset and half and hour before sunrise. Seat belts are compulsory for the drivers and the passengers in the rear seat also and it is an offence if seat belts are not fasten. Childrens under the age of 12 are supposed to sit on the rear seat. Registration papers with proof of ownership, insurance certificates and driving licence is required to be always with you while driving, and make sure that you are not drunk while driving as it is illegal and a very serious crime that could result in severe criminal penalilties. It is advisable to avoid driving after dark especially in the rural areas and motorcyclist should always wear a helmet while driving.
